A few weeks ago, I asked you to consider contacting your state senator regarding a religious liberty bill – Senate Joint Resolution 39 (SJR 39). It passed the state Senate and is now going before the House of Representatives. If passed, the citizens of Missouri will have the opportunity to vote on it as an amendment to the Missouri State Constitution.
This amendment would protect churches and members of the clergy by upholding their right to choose whether or not to participate in same-sex marriage ceremonies. When the bill was being filibustered, one state senator said, “If pastors are unwilling to preside over a same sex marriage they should go to jail because it is the law of the land.” So please understand that this issue is very important to pastors and churches, but it will also protect religious children’s homes and religious universities.
